When Should I Feed Camelibra to My Alpaca, Llama or Camel?
Camelibra should be fed to all alpacas, llamas and camels on a daily basis to complement a natural high fibre diet.
For continued health, it is important for camelids to eat plenty of fibrous material and, as such, the consumption of concentrated hard feeds should always be kept to a minimum. Too much hard feed in the daily diet can cause compaction - a situation where heavier material sinks in the foregut and adversely affects the food's motility and normal gas eructation/regurgitation. For this reason, the daily feeding rate for Camelibra is designed to be very low at just 1g per kg live weight, or approximately 5% of their normal daily intake.

Why we Recommend Grass Testing
Our range is designed to meet the nutritional needs of your herd. However, as grass can vary across the country, we recommend that you carry out grass testing to check the specific nutrient and mineral levels in your local area. This helps to highlight any potential deficiencies or toxicities present on your land or in your feeding. For more information about grass testing please get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
Explained - Nutraceuticals & the Oatinol® Delivery System™
Explained - The 32 Active Nutraceuticals in Camelibra
Nutraceuticals are products derived from food sources with extra health benefits in addition to their basic nutritional value.
Biotin
Essential for the integrity of the toes and skin, and maintenance of normal blood glucose levels.
Calcium
Essential as a major constituent of bones and required for muscle contractions (all movement), cell membrane function and enzyme regulation.
Carnitine
Improves mitochondrial efficiency and helps to neutralise free radicals. Supports heart muscle function, encourages lean body mass and supports joint health.
Copper (inc. Protected)
Essential for improving blood flow and for the production of collagen, which provides the framework for muscles, organs and connective tissues.
Folic Acid (Vitamin B9)
Important for growth and development and helps to produce healthy blood cells.
Iodine
Essential for the production of thyroid hormones. A deficiency of these can cause lethargy, poor performance, poor fleece quality and infertility.
Iron
Essential for the transport and storage of oxygen around the body. It is also needed for growth, and supporting healing and immunity.
Magnesium
Essential for the nervous system and for normal growth and development. Important for regulating muscle contractions and movement.
Manganese (inc. Protected)
Essential for the production of chondroitin sulphate to aid healthy movement and the utilisation of fats and carbohydrates for energy.
Methionine (Protected)
An essential amino acid. The pseudo-ruminant environment alters organic methionine sources, so by protecting methionine we can ensure it reaches the small intestines and is absorbed as required.
Natural Buffering Material
Natural buffering material helps to stabilise the pH in the foregut and encourage the development of beneficial fibre digesting bacteria. This is important when feeding high sugar/soluble carbohydrate feeds, including spring grass, which is converted into lactic acid, which can increase acidity and create an unfavourable environment for the fibre digesting bacteria.
Niacin (Vitamin B3)
Important for carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism, cell respiration and DNA repair.
Oligosaccharides (Mannan) (Prebiotics)
Support the immune system by maintaining naturally high levels of macrophage activity to block harmful organisms being absorbed into the bloodstream.
Omega 3 Fatty Acids
Omega 3 fatty acids provide the precursors of anti-inflammatory regulators and are a daily source of essential fat components, providing the correct dietary balance with pro-inflammatory regulatory component omega 6. Omega 3's are also found in large concentrations in spermatozoa and are essential for maintaining cell wall integrity and preventing moisture/oil loss from the skin.
Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5)
Vital for the body to synthesise coenzyme A, which is essential for fatty acid metabolism.
Phosphorus
Essential for growth, bone & teeth development, and supports urinary tract health.
Potassium
Aids fat & carbohydrate metabolism, nerve and muscle control.
Salt: Sodium Chloride
An important electrolyte which regulates bodily fluids across cells and essential for movement of nerve impulses across the body.
Seaweed Meal
Contains potassium and provides a good source of iodine along with other trace elements. Helps sustain good bacteria in the digestive tract.
Selenium (inc. Protected)
An important antioxidant that works synergistically with vitamin E.
Sulphur
Supports the production of collagen in the body and has antioxidant properties.
Vitamin A (Retinyl Acetate)
Essential for healthy eyesight, a strong bone structure, good fertility and an active immune system.
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)
Supports neural pathways, appetite & muscle strength.
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
Supports appetite, growth and healthy skin.
Vitamin B6
Supports protein metabolism, growth and cognitive function.
Vitamin B12
Essential for the utilisation of amino acids; involved in the production of red blood cells and the integrity of the nervous system.
Vitamin C
Essential for the production of collagen in the body that forms the matrix of connective tissues in mammals. It directly affects the level of tissue growth and development and the maintenance of the body's immune system.
Vitamin D3
Crucial for bone development. Also important for the immune system, fertility and the release of insulin.
Vitamin E (Alpha-Tocopherol)
A biological antioxidant and essential for healthy reproductive, muscular, circulatory, nervous and immune systems.
Vitamin K
Supports liver function and important for the blood clotting process.
Yeast Cultures
Help to stabilise the pH in the foregut and encourage the development of beneficial fibre digesting bacteria. This is important when feeding cereal, high sugar/soluble carbohydrate feeds, including spring grass, which is converted into lactic acid, which can increase acidity and create an unfavourable environment for the fibre digesting bacteria. Significantly improve the digestibility of phosphorous from normal feed.
Zinc (inc. Protected)
Essential for fibre quality and keratin production. Supports insulin production and the immune system.
Explained - The 4 Active Nutraceuticals in the Oatinol Delivery System
Nutraceuticals are products derived from food sources with extra health benefits in addition to their basic nutritional value.
Oatinol is a natural high quality oil based concept developed by and unique to GWF Nutrition. When incorporated into the feed it supplies the following four active nutraceuticals to:
- Maintain gut cell integrity.
- Maintain the lining of the gut.
- Support the immune system.
- Aid the absorption of active ingredients, vitamins and trace elements.
Galactolipid Natural Emulsifiers
Galactolipids are a combination of sugar and fat molecules that create the perfect medium for the absorption of active ingredients across the gut wall.
Natural Tocotrienol Antioxidants
Tocotrienol antioxidants are a natural form of vitamin E. They are 40-60 times more readily available than other forms of vitamin E and help to maintain the integrity of the cells forming the lining of the gut to aid absorption.
Oat Derived Beta Glucans
Beta Glucans have prebiotic properties that support beneficial bacteria in the gut to promote healthy absorption.
Phospholipids
Phospholipids have emulsifying properties and have been shown to actively influence nutrient digestibility and absorption.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Is Camelibra Suitable for Pregnant Hembras?
Yes and especially through the early stages of pregnancy this would still be the sensible all round mineralised feed. In the last 3 months of pregnancy before birth we advocate using Hembra & Cria which particularly nourishes the mother and the rapidly growing unborn cria.
Is Camelibra Suitable for Crias?
This depends on the age of the cria. Feeding Camelibra with the mother is fine, although we would advocate the use of Hembra & Cria from 2 weeks to 6 months of age, particularly to feed the mother and support milk yield whilst also supporting the early growth of the cria. The high level of Whey Protein Concentrate will particularly help to boost the mother’s milk reserves and aid the young cria in its early development. Whey Protein Concentrate is the easiest absorbed protein of all, which is vital for a young cria. We would recommend this is followed by Crialibra at adolescence and then finally Camelibra.
What Sizes is Camelibra Available in?
Camelibra comes in a 20kg bag.
Can I Try a Sample Before I Buy?
Yes of course, if you would like a sample of one of our products please just get in touch.
Where Can I Buy Camelibra?
Depending on your herd size it may be more cost effective to source from one of our retail stockists. Alternatively, you can order from us directly if required. Our feeds and supplements are available at most good pet shops and country stores around the UK. To find a local stockist in your area search using our Stockist Locator. Our products are also available from a variety of online retailers.
Should I Feed More Camelibra in the Winter?
We would suggest the feeding rate can be increased to 1.25gms per kg of liveweight during the winter months to provide additional minerals as required. However, we would advise caution beyond this to reduce any chances of mineral toxicity which can have a negative impact on the animal. Toxicity would take a while to occur but it is not sensible for a prolonged period to feed above the stated feed guidelines. Fibregest and Fibregrass should be used instead if animals require more body condition above the nutrient requirements gained from Camelibra and forage.
Is Camelibra Economical to Feed?
Camelibra is actually very cost effective compared to many other complementary feeds, especially when you consider the feed rate. The feed rate for an alpaca is 1gm/kg of bodyweight (approximately 60 grams for the average alpaca) giving a very reasonable daily feed cost.
