Explained - The 34 Active Nutraceuticals in Muscle & Topline for Horses
Nutraceuticals are products derived from food sources with extra health benefits in addition to their basic nutritional value.
Amino Acids (x14)
Essential for the creation and growth of muscles, connective tissue and skin to help maintain muscle tone, tissue strength and digestion. Supports the healing process within the body. Includes lysine (critical for tissue growth), cystine (increases muscle mass), threonine (an important amino acid, often deficient in an equine diet), arginine, glutamic acid, glycine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, methionine, proline, tryptophan, tyrosine and valine.
Antioxidants (x5)
Vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, curcumin & piperine work together to remove free radicals.
Digestible Milk Proteins (Whey Protein Concentrate)
Sources of readily digestible milk proteins that provide key amino acids for supporting the growth of all tissues with high protein contents, namely: muscles, ligaments, tendons, coat and hooves.
Digestible Oat Starch
Helps to maintain glycogen storage in muscle tissue to reduce muscle fatigue.
Hyaluronic Acid
Involved in the structural formation of cartilage and helps to cushion and lubricate the joints.
Minerals (x5)
Calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium & manganese (protected) are essential for the nervous system and for normal growth and development, as well as supporting bone development and muscle contractions (all movement).
Omega 3 Fatty Acids
Omega 3 fatty acids provide the precursors of anti-inflammatory regulators and are a daily source of essential fat components, providing the correct dietary balance with pro-inflammatory regulatory component omega 6. Omega 3's are also found in large concentrations in spermatozoa and are essential for maintaining cell wall integrity and preventing moisture/oil loss from the skin.
Rosemary Extract
Aids muscle recovery and circulation whilst adding a palatable flavour.
Vitamin B's (x4)
Biotin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folic acid support the synthesis of protein and are essential for muscle growth and repair.
Vitamin D3

Explained - The 4 Active Nutraceuticals in the Oatinol Delivery System
Nutraceuticals are products derived from food sources with extra health benefits in addition to their basic nutritional value.
Oatinol is a natural high quality oil based concept developed by and unique to GWF Nutrition. When incorporated into the feed it supplies the following four active nutraceuticals to:
- Maintain gut cell integrity.
- Maintain the lining of the gut.
- Support the immune system.
- Aid the absorption of active ingredients, vitamins and trace elements.
Galactolipid Natural Emulsifiers
Galactolipids are a combination of sugar and fat molecules that create the perfect medium for the absorption of active ingredients across the gut wall.
Natural Tocotrienol Antioxidants
Tocotrienol antioxidants are a natural form of vitamin E. They are 40-60 times more readily available than other forms of vitamin E and help to maintain the integrity of the cells forming the lining of the gut to aid absorption.
Oat Derived Beta Glucans
Beta Glucans have prebiotic properties that support beneficial bacteria in the gut to promote healthy absorption.
Phospholipids
Phospholipids have emulsifying properties and have been shown to actively influence nutrient digestibility and absorption.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
What Makes Muscle & Topline Unique?
It is specifically designed for replenishing muscle and there are very few products like it in the market place. It contains 14 amino acids, collagen matrix, hyaluronic acid and various vitamins and minerals for improving muscle mass and replenishment.
Like most of our products, it is also formulated with our unique Oatinol Delivery System™, making it exceptional in its field. Oatinol™ allows for the improved absorption of nutrients by blocking pathogens and supporting the immune system, maintaining cell integrity and the gut lining, and finally aiding the absorption of key ingredients.
Who Should Muscle & Topline be Fed to?
Performance and medium/hardworking horses as well as senior or recovering horses.
Muscle & Topline is designed to replenish muscle reserves and aid performance improvements. Every horse's body undergoes constant tissue depletion and replenishment as a natural process. Providing all the essential components for high rates of muscle building and recovery, whilst minimising muscle loss, are key to having a strong athletic horse.
Can Muscle & Topline be Fed with Balancers?
Yes of course, it is specifically designed to be fed alongside our own balancer Equilibra or our simple vitamin and mineral supplement OneCup.
Can Muscle & Topline be Fed With Your Other Supplements?
Yes absolutely.
Can I Try a Sample Before I Buy?
Yes of course, if you would like a sample of one of our products please just get in touch.
Where Can I Buy Muscle & Topline for Horses?
Our feeds and supplements are available at most good pet shops and country stores around the UK. To find a local stockist in your area search using our Stockist Locator. If your local feed store is not currently stocking Muscle & Topline please let us know and we may be able to help. Alternatively our products are also available from a variety of online retailers.
Can You Feed Too Much Muscle & Topline?
Not really it would just be unnecessary additional cost past a certain point.
Is Muscle & Topline GM Free?
No, Muscle & Topline for Horses contains GM soya.
What is the Energy Level/DE of Muscle & Topline for Horses?
14.7 DE (May 2024)
Is Muscle & Topline Suitable for a Horse with EMS or Cushing's?
Yes absolutely fine, as it is a protein supply rather than sugar or starch.
Is Muscle & Topline Economical to Feed?
Muscle & Topline is a high value protein source and is very different to the rest of our feeds and supplements for competing and high work horses. However, we have worked to keep our prices competitive, and thanks to our low feeding rate Muscle & Topline still provides a cost effective way to support your horse's muscular structure and recovery.
Protein can be broken down into energy so it is important to manage energy requirements first and this can be done via good forage, Equilibra, Fibregest and perhaps Tiger Oats depending on work requirements. Then once energy is managed correctly it is important to manage protein lay down and replenishment by feeding Muscle & Topline, especially after exercise when muscles are in most need of replenishment.
Does Muscle & Topline Contain a High Level of Starch?
The starch content in Muscle & Topline is important for aiding absorption. Given that feed rates are typically only 100grams/day the starch level is relatively small. Hard working and performance horses would also utilise this starch.
Does Muscle & Topline Contain Wheat?
No, absolutely not. It does contain black oats though, which provide a more suitable and slow release energy source for horses. It is predominantly made up of very high value proteins including concentrated amino acids, refined hemp protein and maize gluten meal (prairie) as well as hyaluronic acid.
Is Muscle & Topline Suitable for a Horse with PSSM?
Type 1 PSSM is basically a disorder that encourages glycogen deposition due to hypersensitivity from insulin (along with a number of other factors). Noone knows the cause of type 2 PSSM.
PSSM can cause muscle damage and atrophy, and this can be attributed to both energy shortage and a general reduction of insulin release; as insulin sensitivity is so high, very little is produced.
Another function of insulin is to help the uptake of amino acids from the blood and reduce protein breakdown. Reduced insulin is a factor in PSSM induced muscle breakdown, or myopathy.
As Muscle & Topline is designed to support muscle generation, it will offset some of the insulin shortfall and also supply creatine (from lysine) and so reduce the generation of creatine kinase (another PSSM marker).
The improvement of the muscle recovery also has a sparing effect on any free glucose in the plasma and so more is available for muscle activity.
The combination of curcumin and other antioxidants also help to reduce low level inflammation from muscle breakdown. Along with a low starch, high fibre diet, Muscle & Topline can be very helpful for a PSSM challenged horse.
Why does Muscle & Topline contain such a high level of lysine?
Lysine is the first limiting factor in an equine's diet and one of the most important amino aicds for muscle formation. It is therefore crucial to a product like Muscle & Topline.
Muscle & Topline also contains a significant amount of Leucine (4%) which is an essential amino acid for muscle growth. as well as other important amino acids
